Scripture Memory. How does it happen? Over the last several years, lots of people have asked "How in the world do you do it? One answer comes to mind, "Grace." I believe that everything that happens in the life of a believer is a gift of grace. That starts with our salvation, ends with our death, and includes everything in between - our families, our friends, our abilities, and even our sufferings. Before the foundation of the world, God secured a people and determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live. The things we "do" as believers are the things he does in us and through us, for His glory. Scripture memory is no different. In doing it we have no boast but the cross of Christ. Paul said of his own gift "But when I preach, I cannot boast, for I am compelled to preach." God desired to preach through Paul. Paul was simply discharging the trust committed to him. If we believe we are carried by grace, then we believe that every word we commit to memory is a word God committed to us. What do you have that you did not receive? And, if you did receive it, why do you boast as though you did not?
